We had a great flight on Turkish Airlines, serving us Turkish Delight to start and a great Airline meal on the way.


We arrived into the crazily busy Istanbul Airport with a queue of over 45 minutes in Customs. A taxi trip to the hotel and we were able to relax. We had a really nice hotel room in the old part of Istanbul and didn’t venture far for dinner and drinks. The waiter helped us order and we had a mixed platter of Meze, which consisted of seaweed, roe pate, octopus, eggplant, stuffed peppers. It was outstanding.

Next he recommended a shared grilled seafood platter. Didn’t take much persuading, we feasted on giant prawns, sea bream, salmon and calamari.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAWe went to a seafood restaurant and  like many others the restaurants climb up onto rooftop bars.

We ended the night with a bottle of wine we had bought from Italy with us, sitting on our hotel rooftop overlooking the Blue Mosque watching the sun go down and listening to the call to prayer.

As we only had one full day we didn’t pack in too many activities. We wanted to see the Spice Bazaar and the Topkapi Palace Museum. We also wandered through the Grand Bazaar, but soon got tired of that. Was a great hot day and had a beer in the sun.

We head off early from here tomorrow (flight leaves at 6.30am) for Dalaman to meet up with Andrew D to sail for 4 days. Yeha !! Predict more great weather and great food !!
